writing in the digital age framework questions

1. As much as possible.

2. Hard to judge personally.

3. I developed and ran an interactive media software company called Crystal Clear Productions (CCP Ltd). The company was based in the innovation centre in Tralee Co. Kerry for six years. I managed the development of a number of touchscreen technology systems and CD-ROM developments, including a touchscreen technology system that was installed in Harrods of London this software was vetted and approved by Mohamed Alfied. Subsequently the company was backed by Shannon Development and a number of prominent business people.

I developed a strong client base for the company including blue clip clients such as Bank of Ireland, Eircom, Analogue Devices and Fexico. CCP employed 7 people full time and 2 people part time.

I featured on Up and running (an RTE business development programme hosted by Mike Murphy) representing CCP Ltd.

I have part time lectured in Communications, Multimedia development and Business Development (photoshop, premier, director and Quark express programs) in both Letterkenny and Tralee Institutes of Technology.

I have worked as a graphic designer both freelance and contract based for various graphic design companies in Ireland, Holland and Germany.

4. I enjoyed English as a student in school and considered myself Lucky to have had a highly inspirational english teacher, Mrs O'Brian. In third level education I studied fine art, graphic design, desktop publishing and computer graphics. my experiences in creative writing is probably limited to areas which would include visual art, communications, business and marketing.

I worked in the Galway Arts Centre for circa four months before commencing this course. I was given the responsibility of liaison officer for the Cuirt International Festival of Literature. The festival is the largest of its kind in Europe and hosts over 60 events in a week including, book readings, poetry readings, performance art and drama. This was a new experience for me and I was fascinated by the range of contemporary writing and exciting new talent also the variety of readings and events.

I felt humbled to meet with and talk to such talented writers of long-standing national and international renown such as Samantha Powers, Sabestian Barry, Jennefer Johnston and a host of authors and poets covering a vast range of writing styles and topics.

I also had the responsibility of hospitality in the Green Room of the Town Hall Theatre for some of the events in the festival. It was amusing to meet an old school friend, Vona Groarke who was also in Mrs O'Brians class in Taylors Hill secondary school. Vona went on to study english lititure and her profession is a poet. Vona commented that Mrs O'Brien would be likely to give her an 'A' grade for her most recent publication, an english translation of 'Lament for Art O'Leary'.

5. I haven't worked in media for circa five years as I purchased and ran a guest house in Galway this with the added responsibility of rearing a family made it more difficult to continue in my chosen career field. I would like this course to position me professionally to regain employment in the area of Digital Media.

I am also looking forward to enjoying the learning experience and exposure to interesting technologies and their influence on society and the digital age we are currently living in.

6. I generally don't have limitations on favorite things/stuff! anyway my immediate reactions were:

Song

Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah.

To someone who couldn't experience the sense I experience from this song I would suggest they consider; love, preciousness, soured gone stale, faith, hope, religious imagery, enthusiasm, emotional cords, cruelty, kindness, understanding, lyrics, our physical response to music, a Hebrew word (meaning glory to the lord), the possibility of there being no such thing as coincidence in life.

Writing

Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach.

To someone who couldn't experience the sense I experience from this piece of writing I would suggest they consider; a fable in novella form, learning about life, movement, flight, freedom, self-perfection, performance, ballet, aerobatics, christian characteristics, self help, positive thinking, strength, courage, vast space and our place in space.

Visual Art

Michelangelo's Sistine Chapels rendering of the ionic image of God giving life to Adem.
To someone who couldn't consider the sense I experience from this piece of visual art I would suggest they consider; love, birth, life, creation, bonding, genesis, grandeur, culture, Italian Renaissance, engineering, architecture, scaffolding, polymath, Renaissance man, genius and our emotional response to visual imagery/esthetics's.

Taste

Savory.

To someone who couldn't consider the sense I experience from this taste I would suggest they consider; senses, flavour, taste buds, receptor cells, tongue, palate, receptors, deliciousness, wholesomeness, fibers, and health.

Smell

Freshly cut grass.

To someone who couldn't consider the sense I experience from this smell I would suggest they consider; fresh, whiff, the environment, VOCs (volatile organic compounds), the world, nature, growth, birth, death and rebirth, green as a passive calming colour.

Texture

Satin.

To someone who couldn't consider the sense I experience from this texture I would suggest they consider; smooth, luxurious surface, comfort, quality, beauty, sensitivity, sleep, self indulgence, interior design esthetics's and wealth.
